Bruce Wayne would be proud. A team of scientists just built a flying, autonomous robot designed to look like a bat.
Rightfully named the Bat Bot, this bot weighs only 3.3 ounces and is made of silicone membrane and carbon-fiber. Using five small motors and its suite of sensors, the Bat Bot can autonomously perform flap glides, bank turns and sharp dives all on its own.
Along with its light weight, the bot’s flapping wings are much safer for human interaction compared to the bulky, flying robots with rapid-spinning propellers that are currently on the market.
