Nominating A Rising Supply Chain Star: What's In It For You?

 Two years ago, David Allen, who at the time was Functional Excellence Lead in Shell Oil's Downstream Contracting and Procurement Operational Excellence Group, nominated a young colleague, Katy Conrad, for the THOMASNET.com and ISM 30 Under 30 Rising Supply Chain Stars Recognition Program. Katy was not only selected, she was also named the Megawatt Winner for 2014.

Now, David is encouraging other supply chain professionals to participate in the program, as it has proven a rewarding experience not only for Katy, but for David and the Shell organization overall. Here's what he had to say about the program, his experience and why it's important to recognize the next generation of supply chain professionals.

"During 2014, I heard about a new supply chain recognition program being introduced by THOMASNET.com and ISM called “30 Under 30.” The program piqued my interest because I believe that our profession does not do enough to provide recognition to outstanding young supply chain professionals. I decided to participate in the program and nominated Katy Conrad, a fellow Shell Oil colleague, who became the first Megawatt Winner for the 30 Under 30 Program. 

Our profession continues to become more strategic each year. Leadership, collaboration, innovation and great communication skills are keys to achieving future success for young professionals. Katy readily exhibited these skills, and I felt she would be an excellent role model for younger staff. As I worked on her 30 Under 30 Nomination, I realized that the nomination should not only show the monetary value that Katy provided to Shell, but should also discuss the value she brings to the supply chain profession, to her community and to the ISM-Houston Affiliate. 

Seeing Katy selected as the initial Megawatt Star was extremely rewarding. To feel that I contributed in a small way as a coach and mentor to Katy’s success was very satisfying. I am thrilled to see our supply chain profession highlighted in such a positive way through the 30 Under 30 Program and believe the program will help attract additional high caliber talent to our profession in the future. To see Katy and the other 30 Under 30 winners recognized for the workplace successes, community achievements and work with ISM gives an affirmative positive indication about the direction in which our supply chain profession is headed in the future."
